​​Tobago Educational District captured its 26th straight Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on April 20 & 21. Tobago athletes amassed 1176.50 points to finish nearly 300 points ahead of North East District (889), Port of Spain & Environs (789.50), St Patrick (345.50), Victoria (316.5), St. George East (303), Caroni (195) and South Eastern (43). 
*P.S.-Some athletes from the South Eastern District did not participate on the second day due to transportation issues).

Carifta champions Akanni Hislop (Bishops High) and Tyriq Horsford (Signal Hill Secondary) lead the way for Tobago. Hislop sped to gold in the boys over 18 100m (10.68) and 200m (21.43) and anchored Tobago to victory in the boys over 18 4x100m  (42.34) while Horsford took the boys under 18 javelin (63.07). Carifta bronze medallist Anya Akili (Bishops High) shone brightest winning four gold medals.  The 2016 Carifta girls open heptathlon third place finisher took the girls under 18 high jump (1.60), long jump (5.19), 100m hurdles (14.49) and 400m hurdles (1:07.74).  Akili improved on her triple gold medal haul from the 2015 Championships. The Scarborough Seondary trio of Ayla Stanisclaus (girls under 18 100m/200m) Safiya John (girls under 16 high jump/ long jump) and Joel Thomas (boys under 18 100m/long jump), Jelese Alexander of Mason Hall Secondary (girls under high jump/long jump), Speyside High's  Konnel Jacob (boys under 18 shot put/discus) and  the Bishops High pair of Peaches Stewart of Bishop High (girls under 18 shot put/discus) and Anson Moses (boys under 18 high jump/long jump)  were double champions for Tobago. The winners ended the meet with 108 medals (45-gold, 41-silver, 22-bronze). 

North East Educational District took the runners-up spot with triple gold performances from the Toco Secondary's Akidah Briggs who took home the girls over 18 shot put (11.98), discus (27.75) and javelin (38.73). Fellow Toco Secondary athletes Jusonya Fifi (girls under 16 shot put/discus) and Otis Barker (boys over 18 800m/1500m   and Joel Andrews of Holy Cross College (boys under 16 discus/javelin) were also double champions.  North East athletes captured 73 medals 24, 23, 25).

Third place finisher Port of Spain and Environs earned 57 medals (26, 12, 19). Shakeem  McKay of Queen's Royal College was the meet's top male performer winning the boys under 14 100m (12.09), 200m (24.26), high jump (1.40) and long jump (5.01). He was also a part of Port of Spain's victorious boys under 4x100m team which struck gold in an impressive time of 47.4sevonds. Ethan Forde of Fatima College (boys under 16 200m/400m), Joanna Rogers of St. Francois Girls College (girls under 16 400m/800m), Arianne Lucio of Belmont Secondary (girls under 14 100/200) and Kershell McIntyre of St. James Secondary (girls under 18 400m/800m) all copped two gold medals. Port of Spain athletes dominated the 4x1000m relays capturing five of the eight races contested. 


Maurina Prieto (Point Fortin West Secondary) and Shania Francis Francis (Fyzabad Secondary) were the stand-out athletes for St. Patrick. Prieto won the girls over 18 100m and 200m while Francis landed the girls over 18 800m and 1500m crowns. St. Patrick finished with 25 medals (9, 7, 9).  For Victoria, Kashief King (Naparima College-boys over 18 400m), Joshua Dieffenthaller (Southern Academy of SDA-boys under 16 shot) and the district's boys under 16 and over 18 4x400m teams won gold. Victoria collected 17 medals (4, 2, 11). 


Patrice Richards (Holy Faith Convent, Couva-girls under 16 80m hurdles) and Tyrese Rawlins (Chaguanas South Secondary-Boys under 18 400m hurdles) were champions for Caroni 12(3, 5, 4) while Jaeda Attong-Julien of Tunapuna Secondary won the girls under 16 javelin to give St. George East its long gold medal of the championships.
